The Explorer is an application designed to provide a graphical interface to access the data available from the Protein Kinase Resource. It gives the ability to load any sets of sequences, available structures, analyze them and create presentation and publication-quality graphics.

Using Explorer, you can also load structures directly from the Protein Data Bank, local structure and alignment files. The structure viewer offers extensive coloring and rendering options, while the sequence viewer allows to highlight residues using a number of color schemes , as well as to add custom annotations to the alignments. The loaded sequences and the database content can be searched for user-defined motifs and residue patterns.

System requirements:

• Operating system: Windows 2000/XP, MacOS 10.3.1+, Linux, Solaris
• Graphics hardware: at least nVidia GeForce 2, ATI Radeon 7000 or similar with 32 MB of video memory
• Amount of system memory: at least 256 MB
  

Structure display requires Java3D.

If it is not already installed, please the installer for your platform and follow the installation instructions. This needs to be done only once.
