PKR Site HelpIntroductionThis site is the first public release of the new PKR initiative, which aims to link together various sources of information (sequence, structure, annotation) and provide ways to access, display and analyze it from within the convenient web environment. If you have any comments or would like to suggest services or types of data you think we should offer, please let us know. The nature of the information and methods of analysis is such that some advanced technologies have been employed to improve your experience. Please read carefully through the following several paragraphs to ensure that your system is up to date. System requirementsThe Protein Kinase Resource web site is taking advantage of several advanced technologies that require a modern browser and helper applications. One of the most significant of them is Java-based sequence and structure display. To use these features, your system must be properly configured. The minimum system requirements are specified below.
In order for these applications to run, your system must have Java and Java Webstart installed. The easiest way to ensure that these features are present is by installing the latest browser software, such as Netscape 7.0 and heigher, Internet Explorer 5.2 and higher (for Windows), Safari (for MacOS X), Mozilla, Konqueror 3 and above (for Linux). Browser WebStart configurationSequence and Structure Explorer are started using Java WebStart technology that is normally added when Java is installed. In some cases, however, your browser may display messages indicating inability to handle files with extension "jnlp" or requiring plug-ins. In this case, please refer to the browser configuration guide. The current Java configuration of your system:Structure display requires Java3DIf it is not already installed, please the installer for your platform and follow the installation instructions. This needs to be done only once. Java and Webstart are not required for searching and analyzing the information on this web site, however use of PKR Explorer provides a way to visualize the structures and carry out more sophisticated analyses. Note: Sometimes, after you have installed Java3D, the viewer still would not start and prompt you to install Java3D. In this case, you need to make sure there is only one copy of Java environment on your system. The simplest way to fix it is by removing all Java installations and getting the latest version.
